Buyer's Guide: Real Life Comics

Real Life Comic Books - An Alternate View of the World

Real Life Comic is an American online webcomic originally drawn and written by Maelyn Dean which started on November 15, 1998. The comic has since not been updated since December 10th, 2021. It started updating again on July 16, 2021, and has yet to resume updating again from June 15, 2021. This web comic revolves around a group of friends who live in a small town in the Midwest. Each week, a different superhero makes an appearance and the readers are left wanting more.

The strip has received critical acclaim over the years for being creative, intelligent, witty, and entertaining. Some of the characters have gone on to have their own television series, books, or other forms of media since 1999. Other popular characters include the evil overlord Doctor Doom, the headmistress of Springfield High School named Betty Boop, the football coach voiced by Michael Keaton, the son of the original owner of the Springfield franchise, and other supporting characters including the headmaster and other teachers.

The main plot of Real Life Comics involves the day in and day out routine that each of the characters goes through each day. The first few strips feature the main character Betty Boop going about her daily life. Sometimes she accidentally upsets a bad luck character who ends up chasing her throughout town. Other times she just plain loses races in the school track.

The newest strip started in the spring of 2021 and has become one of the most popular online comics in existence. Maelyn Dean created the initial comic with artist Brett Allen and writer Kevin Moores. Moores went on to become one of the writers and creators behind the hit animated series, The Boondocks. The latest strip focuses on Maelyn and her friend and rival, acers Aloysious Dean and Zach Hunter.

The original strip was a very basic eight page comic and despite the basic plot, has been loved by people of all ages ever since its release. The story follows Maelyn as she tries to find her missing brother, Zach, after he goes missing while trying to build a hovercraft. She teams up with other friends from the local skateboard park including a blond girl who happens to be the cousin of the original hero, Powerpuff Girls. The comic is well received and has sold over ten million copies worldwide. The latest version has more than forty seven pages of content.

The second highest ranked superhero comic is written by Greg Pak and drawn by Darick Fisher. The DC comic revolves around a teenager named Superman, who lives in Metropolis. He is the alter ego of Clark Kent and acts as a super hero for the city. Superman has many friends including Super Boy and Robin, who are also his arch enemies. The most recent version has sold over thirty million copies worldwide.

The third most popular superhero comic is written by Greg Pak and drawn by Rayleen Longder. It is called The Phantom. This is a darker take on the traditional strip and follows the story of an evil villain named Phantom. Phantom is a teleporting crime stopping machine. He seeks to destroy all humanity and take over the world using illegal weapons. The Phantom has made many enemies over the years and has formed many alliances.

The last two most popular superheroes are written by James Patterson and drawn by Wallander. They are called The Hard Way and The Vanishing Files. The Hard Way was based on a true story and follows a young woman named Nicole Kidman. She was a orphan whose abusive mother left her alone to go and get married. She went into business for herself and has followed her heart and has become a millionaire.
