Buyer's Guide: Black Panther Comic Books

Black Panther Comic Books

The Black Panther is an African American super hero and one of the members of the Avengers family. He can use his speed, strength and endurance to accomplish many things. This super hero was a founding member of the Avengers, but after the death of his wife and fellow Avengers member, Nighthawk, he went into retirement. He took over as the head of the new team called the Invaders.

In the modern era of the Marvel Universe, you will find several amazing Black Panther stories being written. Most recently in a series called "Powers" the black panther was revealed to be one of the villains of the piece. This series will feature characters such as Black Panther, Spiderman, Iron Man, Wolverine and many others. You will see how the Punisher, Shang Chi, Dr Doom, Fantastic Four, The New Avengers and many others join forces to battle the villain, The Mandarin.

The most recent Black Panther comic book series was written by Brian Bendis and illustrated by Esad Ribac. In the first issue of the series, The New Avengers, you will meet Peter Parker who is the newest addition to the team. Peter Parker goes on a mission trying to find the mysterious black panther. Along the way he encounters the avengers, Cyclops, Iron Man, Spiderman and many others. The adventure in this book continues with issues #2 through #6.

In the second black panther story written by Brian Bendis, the Mandarin was once again a threat to the peace of the world. This time he had gained the ability to turn himself into a monster using the psionic energy that was surrounding him. He attacked Tony Stark and during the battle Spider-Man tried to stop him. After a great battle between the two, Iron Man flew into a helicopter to get away while Spider-Man tried to grab the opportunity to fight the Mandarin. However, he ended up getting hit by a energy blast that destroyed part of a building and left Spider-Man injured.

The third Captain America miniseries, written by Steve Englehart and illustrated by Bachar Khan sees Cap rise to be the head of the new military group called the Avengers. Unlike the previous comic books where Cap does not have any weapons, Cap starts to fight against the Mandarin who uses his mind mastery and illusion to cause chaos and distraction for Cap. Eventually Cap learns that the only way to defeat the Mandarin is to defeat him using his metal super hero suit and strength. The story ends with Cap beating the Mandarin in a final battle which leaves him with a broken arm but without any apparent harm to the Mandarin. The story ends with a rather ambiguous future for Cap where he finds himself without a ship and without any super powers. However, the story does suggest that Cap might soon become the leader of the Avengers.

In the second ongoing of the Black Panther comic, written by Kurt Busiek and illustrated by Busiek and George Busiek, T' Kilimanjaro is the leader of the X-Men. He is a leader of the terrorist organization known as the resurfacing X-Men. He is an incredible mutant whose strength is almost indescribable. The Black Panther series was a success when it was brought to the big screen and proved to be a fantastic force to be reckoned with.

The Black Panther also featured characters from the New Avengers series such as Wasp, Storm, Ant Man, The Fantastic Four, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, The Vision, and Black Widow. The New Avengers series featured an all-star lineup featuring Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson, Hope Van Dyne, Spider-Man, and Wolverine. These members of the Avengers series became integral to the successful introduction of the X-Men into the mainstream of pop culture. Other X-Men that have appeared in the Black Panther comic books include Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Jean Grey's adopted son Rogue, and Wolverine.

The Black Panther, written by Brian Keene, is currently available from Marvel. You can purchase the first issue at any participating comic book shop or online. The trade paperback version was released in 2004 and has been out of print ever since. The new hardcover edition is exactly like the original graphic novel and was written as a sequel to the highly successful Civil War event. The main story focuses on King Pin's attempt to conquer the world, while struggling to balance the opposing forces represented by Wolverine, Storm, the X-Men, and the New Avengers. It's set to be one of the best selling hardcover X-Men tradeshows ever!
